Another day another One Direction story. The boy bands hit "What Makes You Beautiful" will be featured in an episode of Glee next month. One Direction was no match for the Hunger Games on the charts however with the movie soundtrack debuting at #1 this week while 1D's "Up All Night" slipped to #4.
Im not sure who's starting all these rumours, maybe it's Simon Cowell himself just to make sure we keep talking about his X Factor show while its not on, but the latest rumblings have none other than Rihanna in talk to fill one of the open judging spots. Stay tuned
Taylor Swift will get some big time recognition at the Kid Choice Awards this weekend as Michelle Obama will present her with The Big Help Award because of all her charity work.
Justin Bieber is off and rolling releasing the first single from his new CD today. Look for his album Believe to come out this summer, but you can enjoy his song "Boyfriend" right now on the Hot New Music Page.
Speaking of new music, today is New Music Monday so listen up starting at 7 o'clock tonight for 3 new songs that we would like you to vote on. Two of the songs tonight are from soundtracks, Pitbull from the Men In Black 3 soundtrack and another song by Taylor Swift (not Safe and Sound) from the Hunger Games soundtrack. The 3rd song is by a new artist by the name of John West.
After Fergie shot down the rumors of her possibly judging on X Factor next season , speculation is now focusing on Jessie J. The only problem, Jessie J is already a judge on another show, the UK version of The Voice. The rumor is that Simon Cowel wants to triple her salary to tempt her into joining him stateside on the X Factor. I'll keep you posted.
Miley Cyrus tweeted today that she is not engaged. Her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth had a rather big weekend with his Hunger Games movie making 152.5 Million dollars in it's opening weekend. Liam of course was waiting to see if Katniss would win the Hunger Games before he would settle down with Miley! Haha
Fergie is the latest name to be attached to the open X Factor judging spots. According to reports, the Black Eyed Peas singer reached out to producers of the show to express her interest. Britney Spears is evidently still in the negotiation process for the other available spot.
Lana Dell Rey will have a chance to redeem herself from her awkward Saturday Night Live performance earlier in the year, when she sings on American Idol tonight. Let's hope she is a little more prepared for this performance.
Speaking of Saturday Night Live, One Direction will be performing on April 7th. The weekend prior to that, they will also take the stage at the Kid's Choice Awards. But, as far as the rumor of the boys getting their own show on Nickelodeon, it is apparently just that, a rumor. Louis said, "I think there must have been some misunderstanding. We are doing the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, but as far as a TV show goes we haven't sat down and had that conversation."
As you probably heard by now One Direction is coming to Northern California in June. They're doing two shows in the Bay area, 6/13 at San Jose State and 6/14 in Oakland. Tickets go on sale this Saturday morning through Ticketmaster and you can already text in to win a pair of tickets by texting 1D to 73389.
I forgot to mention this earlier in the week, but I heard the new Bieber song and it's VERY different than anything he's done before. Going big time after the Justin Timberlakesound I would say with an acoustic guitar riff over a heavy trancy dance beat. Not much there lyrically though, the beat is definitely the hook of the song. The End will debut it when we get it next Monday :)
American Idol is pulling out all the stops to try to stay ahead of The Voice in the ratings even going so far as adding an "Image Advisor" to the show this season. Tommy Hilfiger will take over the singers look starting next month and consumers will be able to purchase the "Authentic Icon" clothing line in stores starting in June. I always assumed the finalists had people dressing them already, but I guess attaching a big name to the job gives AI a new way to make even more money.
fun.'s "We Are Young" is the most downloaded song in Sacramento for the third week in a row. They'll be here Monday for a sold out show at Sac State but The End still has your tickets to win all this weekend.
Television has definitely been a factor in the recent resurregence of Maroon 5 thanks to Adam Levine's judging on The Voice. Soon we will get to see Adam on a totally different show. Levine will make his acting debut in season two of "American Horror Story". The producers are so set on having Adam on the show that they are willing to shoot around the singer's summer touring schedule. Along with his TV debut, Adam has also released his own fragrance and is back to recording a new song with Maroon 5.
One Direction's star just keeps shining brighter! Their first CD Up All Night debuted on top of the Billboard albums charts this week, making the boys the first British band EVER to enter the US album charts at #1 with their debut CD. Stop to think about that for just a minute. Bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones would be included in that list. And don't forget The Spice Girls! haha Impressive. The End will be announcing when and where 1D will be performing in Northern California tomorrow (3/21) morning at 7:30, so be listening if you can!
Calvin Harris, who's debut solo hit Feel So Close is currently climbing the charts, recently collaborated with Ne-Yo for a song called "Let's Go," which will be the theme song for an upcoming Pepsi Max advertising campaign. It will be included on Calvin's new CD to be released this spring.
The Wanted will be performing on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno tonight. Set the DVR!
It won't be long until The Voice passes American Idol in the ratings. This week, The Voice had 14.3 million viewers, while American Idol continues its decline down to 17.9 million. The Voice will expand to 2 nights a week when it starts its live voting rounds in April. Idol also announced that its Wednesday night show will remain 2 hours long instead of shrinking to 90 minutes in April as was originally planned. You know what that means, even more waste of time filler and not-so-witty banter between Ryan and the judges.
Katy Perry is going to perform live at the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards on March 31st. Will Smith hosts the show from Los Angeles. I announced earlier that One Direction will be performing that night.
Looks like the Warped Tour is not coming to Sacramento this year. The closest it's coming is San Francisco on Saturday June 23 in the parking lot of AT&T Park.
Americal Idol finalist Jermain Jones is going to get kicked off the show tonight after producers found out he lied to them to cover up his criminal past. They evidentally confronted him on camera yesterday although I'm not sure if any of that footage will end up on the show tonight. Supposedly Jermain will appear on the show before he is kicked off which sounds extremely awkward to me, but then again A.I ratings are dropping and I wouldn't put it past them to milk the drama of this controversy to get a spike in the ratings tonight.
Speaking of singing competitions, Darren Criss who plays Blaine on Glee, was evidently offered the hosting job for the second season of X Factor. Darren had to turn Simon Cowel down due to his busy schedule, which is too bad because I think he could have done really well as the host.
Sacramento is in love with two new alternative acts as fun's "We Are Young" is the most downloaded song in the area this week. Hot on their heels is Gotye's catchy song "Somebody That I Used To Know" at number 2. It's been a while since the last time two alternative songs were the most downloaded in Sac.
One Direction made an appearance on The Today Show this morning performing their debut single "What Makes You Beautiful." The song, which has already topped the UK Charts and won a Brit Award for Best British Single, is now rapidly ascending the charts here in the US. There was an estimated 10,000 fans in the crowd for the performance this morning, one of the largest the show has ever had. 1D releases their debut album Up All Night tomorro, and will now also be appearing on Saturday Night Live April 7.
Watch "The Voice" tonight to see Sacramento resident Lindsey Pavao perform in the Battle Rounds. If she wins tonight, she will move on to next month's live voting rounds. I'll keep you posted with her progress so we can all get behind her if she advances. Watch the interview I did with Lindsey and learn a little bit about our local girl!
The Wanted are in talks to appear on the big screen! It has been reported that The Wanted will appear in the "Entourage" movie. The group hit it off with executive producer Mark Wahlberg, who happens to be a big fan of the guys. Mark Wahlberg wants them to star in the film in some way. This can be the next big step for the band.
The money has been counted and Taylor Swift made more profit than any other singer in 2011. She made $37.5 million thanks largely to her successful tour, which is where artists generally make most of their profit. Rounding out the Top 5: U2, Kenny Chesney, Lady Gaga and Lil Wayne. Gaga's $25 million earnings in 2011 was way down from her 2010, but hey, $25 mil ain't bad! You might be surprised not to see Adele on that list, since 2011 was pretty much her year. While she did indeed sell more albums than anyone else last year, she did have to cancel many of her live shows in the US due to her throat surgery. The British songstress did make about $13 million to finish the year at #10.
She started off on a singing show, and now Kelly Clarkson will be on another one, only on the other side of the desk this time. She has been picked to host a new ABC show called Duets, which will air this summer. Joining her as judges will be 80's star Lionel Richie, and Robin Thicke.
Rihanna has jumped on the band wagon and reached out to the people behind the KONY 2012 video, supposedly offering her support for the group, and perhaps will be making her own video about the issue soon. I spoke on the air yesterday about KONY 2012. See below to hear the audio.
The Wanted will be the victims of one of Justin Beiber's early pranks on the new version of Punkd which premiers on March 29th. The five guys in the group are shooting a video in Los Angeles when they are rolled up on by the LAPD and warned that they're trespassing. The police even handcuff and arrest one of the members leaving the rest of the band stunned. Guess we will have to watch the show to see exactly how it plays out.
We already know that Justin Beiber can add author to his long list of accomplishments and now his mother is getting in on the act. Pattie Mallette, who had Justin when she was only 18, has signed a book deal to write "Nowhere But Up: The Story Of Justin Beiber's Mom" so for those of you who cant get enough of the Beebs, look for the book in store soon!
Another Ice Age movie hits theaters in July! Drake will be joining Keke Palmer and Jennifer Lopez doing the voiceovers for Ice Age 4: Continental Drift. It's not exactly Degrassi, but good to see, I mean hear Drake using his acting skills again.
Katy Perry guest stars on Raising Hope tonight, which airs after American Idol. Katy plays a goofy prison guard, complete with huge curly red hair, and a little stache on the upper lip!
An hour-long documentary about Demi Lovato dealing with her struggles as she hits the road again on tour for the first time since her issues which ultimately led to her rehab back in 2010. It airs tonight at 10p on MTV, followed by an hour long live question & answer session with Demi.
It's just one week until One Direction drops their debut CD here in the US, and their TV appearances are starting to pile up. They'll perform on the Today Show March 12, the day before the album comes out, and then again on Nickelodeon's Kids Choice Awards on March 31.
Dev, who will be in Sac in a couple of weeks performing at a local high school, will then be hitting the road on her The Night The Sun Came Up Tour, with Outasight opening for her. The tour rolls through Stockton (at UOP) on April 13.
Nicki Minaj will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live tonight at Midnight. I assume she will be performing her song "Starships." Her new CD comes out April 3rd.
Well, it finally happened. Justin Bieber is a man. The Biebs turns 18 today, and is supposedly making the most of his day with all sorts of crazy fun plans out and about in LA. Later in the month, Justin takes over as host for the revival of the MTV show "Punk'd". Taylor Swift is apparently one of his early targets.
Speaking of Taylor Swift, you can hear her voice in the new movie "The Lorax", which opens tomorrow night. Taylor voices the character of Audrey, who is romantically persued by Ted, voiced by Zac Efron. Taylor has denied rumors that she and Zac shared any off-screen romance.
John Mayer will be releasing his 5th CD Born and Raised, on May 22nd. He is hitting the road this spring to support the album, but unfortunately isn't getting any closer than Las Vegas on May 5th, at least for now.
