Hip Tip - Fashions from the Orient

If you’ve started keeping a keen eye out for oriental pieces, then your next step is learning how to style them.  It’s all about subtlety, not stepping out of the house looking like you’re headed to a costume party dressed as a Geisha. A pretty good start is incorporating simple flowing silks and fluttering kimonos, styled with the right degree of subtlety, rounded out by fresh orchids as hair accessories and a beauty look that’s softly exotic yet very much played down. This is a sweet and flattering trend that we will be seeing a lot this year.

Hip Tip - At Home Waxing Tip

If you are using an at home waxing kit, you may have found that some of the waxing strips are WAY too big for the area you are waxing. A great way to avoiding wasting strips and having a little more control over the areas you are waxing is by cutting your strips down to the right size. This can also be done with self heating wax strip and is incredibly helpful when you are doing your upper lip and eye brows.

Hip Tip - Tanning Cocktail

Next time hit the tanning salon… have a cocktail.  NO I am not talking about an adult beverage I am talking about a tanning cocktail...One part bed tanning, one part sunless tan.  By bed tanning first, you give your pores a chance to open up and absorb the sunless solution… This is a great way to make your sunless tan last almost twice as long as well as giving yourself an even more natural look. As always, wash your hands and feet immediately after sunless tanning.

Hip Tip - Tank Tops

It's still plenty hot outside... which means tank top season is still in full swing.  But if you have large arms or just FEEL like you have large arms there are definitely do's and donts when it comes to picking out the perfect tank for you.  A tank with large straps (that go the length of your shoulder) can actually make your arms look bigger.  A tank with less material over the shoulder will offer more definition to your arm... another flattering look is a racer back tank.

Hip Tip - Flab to Fab in Seconds

There is nothing more annoying than trying on a million different clothes only to realize that the problem is not the clothes, but your tummy. It can be hard to find things that hide your tummy but at the same time looks good too, so here are a few suggestions… A Banded Top Banded tops are shirts that have a band at the hemline which is great for covering a tummy bulge. Wrap Dresses and Shirts Wrap dresses and wrap shirts are excellent for hiding your tummy pouch. Choose them  in colorful patterned styles since the eye will be drawn away from the problem area. And Get the Right Fit Stick to your size and your body structure. Wearing something too small and too tight will only accentuate the problem and wearing something that is too large for you will only make it obvious that you’re trying to hide something. Instead, stick to a happy medium: your true size!

Hip Tip - Stop Sweating

I know it’s not polite to talk about… but some people are sweaters. You might be one of the unlucky souls that can break a sweat under your arms in even the iciest of temperatures… which is not only unflattering… it limits you on what you can wear. Here is a tip.... Put deodorant on at night, too. That way, it will have plenty of time to absorb into your skin and start working... In the morning, shower and swipe on another coat as you normally would. Your pits should be good to go.

Hip Tip - STRIPES

Stripes have been showing up in all shapes and sizes this season demonstrating their versatility all the runways and on our favorite stars.  Get the look yourself be pairing a vertical striped top with a pair of wide leg jeans for a nautical look or get two trends in one by rocking a maxi dress in graduated stripes to show off your '70s spirit. If you're looking for a simpler style, pair a striped sweater with a neutral colored pant or denim skirt.

Hip Tip - Adding a little extra to your nails

I've told you about Sally Hanson effects... those are the nail polish strips that have dozens of different patterns and you can just peel off and stick them on.  Well there is another way to utilize these fun nail accessories.  Paint your nails in what ever color you prefer using standard wet nail polish.  Then use the Sally Hanson effects on just the tips of your nails.  You can achieve this look by cutting a strip from the Effects and placing it at the edge of your nail... then file off any extra material. This will give you the look of a fun and funky french manicure... and you can do it right at home.

Hip Tip - Snake Skin Shoes

While we've shown some serious love for leopard print in the past year, this summer a new animal pattern is stealing the spotlight: snakeskin!  The vast majority of people can’t pull this print off head to toe.   The key to this look is to pair the shoe with solid colors, so as to not compete with the pattern.  And while a neutral outfit looks perfectly lovely, to really make the look sing of summer... don't be afraid of punching up the color with a bright hue or even an orange.

Hip Tip - Brilliant Braids

Braids are the must-have hairstyle for the summertime; and you're able to don them during the daytime and evening.  In the afternoon, you can twist up your locks into a milkmaid braid.  By keeping your hair swept up, you'll be able to stay cool and stylish.  If you are going for a dramatic look, emulate the heiress' mane and part your hair down the middle. Don't worry about what to wear with this creation, because anything in your closet will match. Just remember to keep you makeup simple. By far, this will be your cheapest accessory during the season.

Hip Tip -

Your eye brows can make or break your look.  So keeping your eye browse tamed is vital… but it goes beyond tweezing. Using a clear mascara to smooth over your eye brows is a perfect way to make them look perfect.  Dot 4 drops of clear mascara from your brush onto your eyebrow.  Then using the brush carefully stroke the eyebrow.   To shape them use your finger to curve the top of your eyebrow and then the bottoms..Then just glide along the eyebrow to collect fly aways.  DONE!!!!

Hip Tip - Eye Shadow Switcharoo

There is a new trend in makeup that a lot of celebs like Megan Fox and Charlize Theron do that looks really great when done right. And it couldn’t be an easier trick to pull off.  It’s the old eye shadow switcharoo.  Instead of applying the darker color on her eyelids and the lighter color above, she applies the lighter color on her lid and the darker shade above. This enhances their beautiful eyes and adds to over all stunning look.

Hip Tip - At home hair

You’re trying to save money… we all are… and let’s face it, throwing down $150 every six week on cut a color isn’t going to help you stay in within your budget. So coloring your hair at home is a great wait to save some cash but there are definetly a few tips you should follow to get a salon quality look, especially if you want highlights…. Here’s what the pros say... • Use a clarifying shampoo on your hair at least two days before coloring. • Never shampoo the day you color. • Check the expiration date on the package. And once you mix the color, use it right away! • Toss out the brush that comes in the box and buy flat 1/2 and 1/4 inch acrylic brushes. These brushes, used by artists, are available at art supply stores (they'll give you better control and more natural-looking results) And finally, • Start from the back of your head and work forward. By working from back to front, you won't smear the pieces in front by having to reach over them to do the back.

Hip Tip - Cetaphil

If you have extremely sensitive skin either all the time or just seasonally…A great product to use that doesn’t seem sexy but will certainly make your skin feel firm and smooth is Cetaphil lotion. Now I will be the first to admit Cetaphil needs to revamp their image cause by the looks of the bottle… it looks like something your grandmother would use...but it is one of the best skin products out there and it has been around for years!!! I use the Cetaphil facial cleanser and  I  just started using the lotion after I shave. It’s everywhere… it’s inexpensive and you will love it.

Hip Tip -

If you are looking to do a little organizing and or you need more closet space… Start with your shoes.  Look through all of your shoes and box up the winter ones.  People make the mistake of taking up space by leaving out their boots during the summer....Just like we box up our winter coats and sweaters… your winter shoes should be put away during the warm months as well.  You will find you have a ton more space… and you will be so much more organized.

Hip Tip - Finding the perfect lip liner

Finding the perfect lip liner to go create a pleasant pout can sometimes require patients.
  • Look for a shade of lip liner that is just a little darker than your normal lipstick color. You may need more than one liner, which is perfectly fine.
  • Find a mirror and practice blending the two. If you like what you see, get the same color again. If not, you may have to buy a new shade and try again.
  • Pay attention to brand. Some brands last longer or use more natural products.
  • Buy a couple of the same color once you find the brand and shade you love. You can keep one at home, one with you for quick touch ups and one in your desk.

Hip Tip - Scratchy Tags

We have all been in a situation where the tag from our shirt or pants keeps rubbing against you and either hurts or itches and drives you crazy all day. Now you can always take the approach of just ripping the tag out but you run the risk of tearing your clothes and ruining them or you can go in the bathroom with a pair of scissors… take your clothes off and cut out the tag… BUT don’t expect to remember the brand or size. I have found a great trick is getting a band aid and placing over the tag that is causing the problem. It gives you instant relief and usually stays on for a few washes.

Hip Tip - Bold Earrings or Bold Necklace NOT both

Right now, it's not fashionable to match your earrings to your necklace.  For example… pearl earrings and pearl necklace. In fact, it's better to choose one or the other - great earrings or great necklace.   If you wearing a bold necklace AND earrings you run the risk of looking gouty. And if you go too simple with both necklace and earrings… they won’t stand out at all.  Look at least 3 pairs of earrings or at least 3 necklaces before you make your decision if they will work together.

Hip Tip - How to Shop

Shopping can be a wonderful and therapeutic experience or it can leave you feeling like a slob and hating yourself… at least temporarily.  To make your shopping experience leaving you feeling fabulous instead of flabby… here are a few tips… Don’t bother choosing clothes to try on unless they’re the right shape, length and style for your specific body shape and height and budget. Don’t go out LOOKING for a specific style that you saw on the run way or red carpet… when you find what is right for you and fits your personality you will know. And DON’T spend more money than you actually have… you will feel instant buyers remorse and never enjoy your treasure as much as you should.

Hip Tip - Excellent Bra

If you are a busty broad… or maybe one of your girlfriends is part of the larger breasted population… you need to listen to this cause I have found the most amazing bra.  It’s from Victoria Secret’s Body by Victoria line and it’s the Perfect Fit style.  It is almost a demi cut but not so low that your girls fall out and I like it cause it I am never tugging or pulling on it to keep it in place.  It has three hooks in the back, which offers a lot more support and it comes a bunch of cute colors. It’s just under $40… and I promise… it fits like a glove.

Hip Tip - Professional Shorts

Now that we are seeing double digit weather… maintaining as stylish and professional look can be a challenge because professional attire is often made of heavier materials.  A fun, flirty yet still professional are pressed cotton shorts in a bold color, coupled with a silk blouse.  It’s important to choose a pair of shorts that has the same cut and general look as a pair of slacks.  Where an appropriate open toed heal and lots of jewelry and can pull of shorts in even the most professional setting.

Hip Tip - Guy Style

There is something so alluring about women wearing menswear styles, from neckties to slacks or suspenders. Raid your boyfriend’s closet.  Borrow things like vests, fedoras and even (if it isn’t too big) his dress jacket.  A guys blazer with cuffed sleeves over a plain white T-shirt and skinny jeans is a super cute look.  Also adding little tennis shoes to the look like boat shoes is a nice way to add a little cuteness. Just like guys love a girl in a white button down… they also love when girls wear other guy styles.

Hip Tip - Sexy Summer Must Haves

Here are a few must haves for a Sexy Summer Style.  Get yourself a big white bag.  It’s cute and ultra handy.  Have a few items with animal prints.  Rock a fedora. Not only do hats protect your face from the sun, they're really freakin' cute. And finally a pair of shorts with a thick cuff.  This is a flattering look for almost everyone!

Hip Tip - UV Protection in your make up

We all know what strong UV rays can do to our skin if not well-protected. Since sun exposure "ages" the skin, more and more foundations, powders and even lipsticks contain sunscreens. But even when it says SPF 15 on the label, it may not be enough. For the most part, dermatologists say sunscreens in makeup are great for incidental exposure to the sun (if you are walking from your car to your door for example). But it's better to use a sunscreen all over your face under your makeup if you expect to be in the sun for longer than 10 or 15 minutes.

Hip Tip - Yoga Mat Sandals

It’s officially flip flop season and while there are cheap flip flop deals all over the place… I know it’s tempting to buy buck sandals in every color possible… it isn't necessarily good for your feet.  A great new trend are flip flops made of Yoga mats.  They are SO comfortable, the straps don’t rub the tops of your feet and they actually mold to your feet. They are about $25 to $30 bucks and they have some very cute designs.  So give them a try… I am telling you, your feet will feel great and you will be stylish for summer.

Hip Tip - Beach Wedding Dress Code

With more and more couples forgoing the standard church wedding and opting for a beach wedding instead... it's hard to know what to wear.  Beaches generally mean a more casual setting but not always.

Black Tie or Black Tie Optional

The line black tie optional suggests a formal beach wedding, usually in the evening. Women should wear a long formal dress. Dark grays, browns, navies, purples, burgundies or greens are appropriate color choices. Men should wear a dark suit and tie. A black tie wedding indicates tuxedos for men and long black formal dresses for women.

Beach Formal

Though still a formal dress code, this lets in a little wiggle room for guests when it comes to color and style. Vibrant colors for both men and women will look wonderful at a beach wedding. Bright blues, reds, purples or corals are appropriate in formal shirts, ties and dresses.

Dressy Casual

A dressy casual request often indicates a more informal look. Tea-length sundresses are perfect for women, while men can wear a linen suit or dress shirt and slacks and still look appropriate.

Hip Tip - Travel Tips for Chicks

Just about everyone is out of school now and to go on vacation. Here are a few tips that will help you pack for your vaca. -Instead of packing your tubes, jars, or plastic bottles of creams try a contact lens case. You can use both sides, one for eye cream, the other for concealers or products that require dabs for application. -When it comes to traveling with money… it’s important to keep it on you while… especially while you fly.   A great place to hide money is in your bra.  Remove the demi cup from your bra and use the little pocket to slip your money and or card inside. - Make photo copies of all of your import info… ID, travel info, even your passport.  If anything, it will give you piece of mind to know you always have back ups.

Hip Tip - Nail Polish Strips

A  fun new beauty product is nail polish strips.  Nail polish strips are dry sheets of nail polish that you size to your finger nail and apply but merely peeling off the back and sticking to you nail. The fun thing about nail polish strips is that they come in TONS of patterns from cheetah to zebra… even metallic and most of them last for about 10 days. Sally Hanson Effects is a good one to start with… you can find it at any drug store and it’s about 10 bucks. And don’t worry… if you don’t love then… they can be easily removed with nail polish remover.

Hip Tip - The Natural Look

Earth tones look great on most women and help create a more classic and natural look.  Use brown, green, beige and gold toned eye shadow to bring out your eyes whether you use the hues individually or mix them for a more sophisticated look.  Make sure to blend the hues together well to obtain a great transition.   Again a natural transition will help you obtain a more sheik look.

Hip Tip - Be Kind to Your Hair

To give your hair a break… skip the heat. I cannot tell you how important it is that you skip the blowdrier/straightener/curler as much as possible!   On your days off where you’re not leaving the house for example, why not let your hair air dry to its natural state?  The more heat you put on your hair, the more you dry out the strands, leaving your hair weak, brittle, and not very healthy. If you must blowdry every day, make sure you do it at the lowest heat setting possible. Yes, it does take a little longer, but it can make a world of difference!

Hip Tip - Wet Your Applicator

It's amazing how one little change can make a huge difference... like adding water to you eye make up. Wet your applicator tip and dip in your shadow shade—this will create a darker, more dramatic shadow effect. And for an even sexier look.  Apply dryshadow to lid. Then, wet applicator, dip in same color, and draw a line close to upper lash line. You'll get a subtle contrast of shading that'll make you a standout.

Hip Tip - Waxing at Home

Now that we are heading into swim suit season… there may be a few areas you have been overlooking through the winter months… for example, your bikini area. And waxing is a great way to keep everything looking kept up.  But if you plan on using an at home waxing kit to save money or because you are a little bashful… there are a few things you need to know. 1. Never wax just after sunbathing or a tanning salon …

2. After waxing, wait at least a few hours … swimming or hot tubbing.

 3. Do not wax if you have …

  • Skin allergies
  • Acne
  • Any other skin disorder
  • Very sensitive skin
4. If you are not sure how to wax – call a salon for information …

Hip Tip - Perfectly Protected Skin

Today is going to be 90 degrees… so you need to prep your skin for this beautiful sunny day.  When you get out of the shower, apply a low SPF sunscreen to your entire body.  With a low SPF sunscreen you will still have a chance to get a little color… which for most of us is badly needed.  But when you first start shedding your clothes and exposing your skin you need protection and a low spf sunscreen will do just that. Plus… nothing gets you in the summer spirit… like the smell of sunscreen.

Hip Tip - 8 Point Rule

If you want to know how to mix and match the perfect number of accents and accessories.   The safest method to use is the 8-count rule when choosing accessories. If you count the number of points of interest you have on your total outfit it should not exceed over 8.  Make sure to include belts, rings, earrings, watches and glasses. Adding these to your outfit will get you that fashionable look you want without going overboard.

Hip Tip - What to Wear to a Wedding

With wedding season upon us… there are definitely do’s and don’ts when it comes to wedding apparel. You would think this goes without saying… but don’t wear white or cream to a wedding. This is a color that is of course reserved for the bride exclusively.  As a general rule of thumb… a tasteful dress or skirt that is not too tight or too short is always a good option…  If you don’t like dresses… nice slacks are ok as well…  But for the most part… most of your outfit should be pulled off of a hanger and not out of a drawer. If you can unfold any piece of clothing and just put it on… it’s too casual for a wedding.

Hip Tip - Dark Circles Under Your Eyes

Dark under eye circles are obviously unflattering... they make you look like you just pulled an all nighter and are difficult to simply cover up.   The best plan of attack is to get rid of them. That being said, the answer to this unsightly problem may already be in the pantry waiting for you.  Potatoes are one of nature's best remedies for naturally getting rid of these unwanted circles.  A chemical found in the potato helps lighten skin."   It’s used in cosmetics all the time but using the real deal is much more effective.

Hip Tip - Revamp Your Wardrobe

Revamping your wardrobe for spring and summer takes time and money.  Which are two things most of us don’t have enough of…  So before you head out to buy all new clothes… do your homework.  Get online and find out what the latest looks are.  Many times you can mix and match last years style with a few new pieces from this year. And only spend top dollar on core items… and then feel free to hit up your favorite department stores or second hand stores for accessories…

Hip Tip - Bold Eyes or Bold Lips... not both

Dramatic eyes or seductive lips.  Both are amazing looks but they should never be done at the same time…. Doing a dark eye AND a dark lip will make you look over done or too dramatic.  If you want your lips to make a bold statement, underplay your eyes…. Go with soft eye shades or completely natural earth tones.  When the eyes are emphasized, lips should just whisper…. Feel free to use a very soft lip liner with clear lip gloss instead of lipstick.

Hip Tip - Mascara Tips

Long, lushes lashes are important to all of us… so here are a few tips to that every girl must know. • Never, ever pump the wand – this adds air to the mascara container, which will only make your mascara dry out faster. • Use less mascara on lower lashes than on top lashes. Or skip the mascara on lower lashes for a more casual look. • If your mascara smells funny or is more than six months old, it’s time to toss it. • After you've coated lashes with mascara, add just one more layer to the outer corners. The extra coat will make your lashes look especially long and make your eyes appear farther apart.

Hip Tip - Prom/Wedding Tips

Prom and wedding season is upon us which means… getting your hair did.  Here are a couple things to keep in mind….  Think ahead. Schedule an appointment with your stylist well in advance. Salons are overbooked in the spring because of both weddings and proms. If you need ideas, visit the salon early and look through their books.  Bring along any hair accessories or earrings you plan on wearing because they will be needed for your overall style. A picture can better portray the hair color and style you have in mind. Take advantage of the situation, the more input you give, the more likely you'll be happy with the results.

Hip Tip - Reducing Puffy Eyes

Puffy Eyes can be caused by many things.  An awful night’s sleep, crying over a boy or water retention…  Regardless of the reason… have puffy eyes looks awful and takes away from your over all fabulousness. A great product to reduce puffy eyes almost immediately is Garnier’s Anti Puff Eye Roller.  You simply roll it on before you apply your make up and VOILA. And here is another tip… to increase the effects, keep the roller in your refrigerator.  The cooling effect will speed up the process and no one will ever know you were a hot mess when you woke up.

Hip Tip - Fringe Bangs

A very popular hair style trend right now is fringe bangs.  Fringe bangs are a clean straight cut on the bang but actually let them lay right above your eye lashes.  Fringes bangs define your face and frame your face. But if you cannot maintain a fringe, do not get it. For ladies, who are always in a hurry and who have curly hair, a fringe is a big NO NO! If you have naturally straight hair and do have to style it on a regular basis… then go for it!

Hip Tip - Look Thinner in Pictures

Want to look 10 lbs thinner in your pictures?? Well of course you do!  The secret is in the pose. Here are a few secrets to appear thinner in your photos without taking a face book photo that is way above your head…Turn partially sideways to the camera. Point one toe to the camera and place your weight on your back foot.   Pull head forward slightly to minimize any appearance of a double chin.  Hold arms slightly away from your body. This keeps upper arm flab from flattening out and therefore appearing flabbier…Pull shoulders back, chest forward and gently suck stomach in. Be careful not to suck stomach so far in that your ribs show… cause then… your secret is out.

Hip Tip - Root Lift

For maximum volume… a great product to add to your arsenal is a root lift gel. The only problem with using gel… and I am sure you have noticed this as well… you lack control when using it. So a great product to use is Pantene's Volume Root lift gel spray. This is a great product for people with thin hair but also for those of you that are going for a jersey style tease. It makes the teasing process much easier because it does half the work for you. You can get this at almost any drug store, it’s cheap and it works.

Hip Tip - Bold Colors for Spring

This Spring the biggest trend you will see in fashion is color.  Bright bold colors, mixed with crisp whites will be huge.
Instead of a little black dress... find the perfect little pink dress.
Getting a new hand bag??? Go with a blue or yellow.
And when it comes to jewelry, fun costume jewelry that is over sized and mis matched is another fun way to bring tons of color into your wardrobe.
Oh, and don't feel like you need to match all these bright colors... feel free to layer bold colors on top of each other to add a little more pop.

Hip Tip - Wooden Shoes

APRIL FOOLS... don't really buy wooden shoes lol.

Hip - Tip Hair Extensions

Hair extensions. We have all seen celebs like Britney rocking them but they aren’t just for famous goddesses any more. Normal chicks like you and me are going the way of synthetic hair for a lot of different reasons… But taking care of your extensions is very different then you real hair. Make sure you are using the right brush… one with soft bristles and you need to start brushing from bottom to top. Tie your hair up in a smooth knot while you sleep and never ever try to color your extensions yourself. Whether you have thin hair, want to try something different but don’t want to wait for your hair to grow or if you are like me and just like having plenty of hair for your man to softly brush away from your face during those romantic moments… Hair extensions are hot, in and a lot of fun.

Hip Tip - How to keep your hair looking Fabulous

After all the high lights, low lights, blow drying and flat ironing we ladies have done to our hair… It makes sense that we usually get to a point when we just want to cry because our hair seems so fried. I talked to my stylist and she said a great product that will make my sexy locks really turn heads is a product called Moroccan Oil. Moroccan Oil is a hydrating Mask for your hair it revitalizes it and restoring shine and manageability. It will dry those damaged split ends that we have caused due to styling our hair in an effort to reach maximum fabulousness… Leaving us more time to worry about more important things… like which little which mini to wear with my knew Gucci wedges.

Hip Tip – Trendy Little Dresses

One of the easiest ways to look fabulous while applying little to no effort is by wearing a trendy and chic little dress. I personally think a belted cotton dress gives me that bombshell hour glass look while always being comfortable, and flattering. One-piece outfits are simple, hassle-free, and luckily, one of the biggest trends this spring season. To dress up your dress, add lots of accessories… bracelets, large ear rings and my personal favorite, fabulous wedges. You will be totally stylish and perfectly breezy!

Hip Tip - POREfessional

Ladies, none of us wants to be known for our pores. In fact, the less noticeable the pores on a woman’s skin the better and a great way to conceal them is with a primer. A primer that will never let you down and the one I uses is POREfessional. POREfessional can be found at Ulta or Sephora and can be used before or after you apply your foundation. I prefer to use it before… but that’s just the kind of girl I am. It will minimize the appearance of pores…so your guy will only stare into your eyes and not into your pores!

Hip-Tip - Rollasoles

Roll- A- Sole shoes. These tiny ballet flats could be found in vending machines outside of bars in the UK last season… They come in a tiny bag and you can slip them on after a night of Cosmo’s and dancing with your girls. Well you won’t see Roll-a-Soles in dispensers at bars anytime soon. But you can order them at target.com and pack them in your Louie before you hit the town. They will give you the relief you need when your Jimmy Chou’s start making your precious tootsies hurt. They’re probably not durable enough to wear every day, but at just $9.99 a girl can buy several.

In a perfect world, every foundation would last all day, and conceal all of those little imperfections that you'd rather the world didn't see. So, in an effort to avoid foundation horror stories and wasted money, here are three of the best foundations that you can pick up almost anywhere: -Maybelline SuperStay 24HR -Neutrogena Skin Clearing Liquid Foundation -Revlon ColorStay All of these are worth a shot and might just give you the complexion you have always dreamed of!

Hip Tip - Reducing Cramps By Eating Healthier

It’s an unfortunate side effect of being a woman, but every month we get a visitor that brings its own unpleasant baggage.  But one of the worst things you can expect with your monthly friend is cramps. We have all experienced them in one form or another and regardless of their severity, they are never fun. But it turns out a main cause of pain might be the wrong diet or lack of nutrition… So it is important to pay attention to what you consume. Reduce your salt, sugar and caffeine intake during the week before your period to prevent cramps or reduce their severity and increase your intake of calcium-rich foods such as milk, yogurt or leafy vegetables. This is just a little change that could give us girls, the relief we have been looking for!

Hip Tip

If you are looking for a long lasting lip color… look no further. Revlon has a lip stain called Once Bitten and it is AMAZING. It has a super fine tip so you can line your lips with total precision and then fill them in. Then on the flip side it has a lip balm that you can apply as much or as little as you want but it isn’t necessary to keep the balm in place. It just gives you lips that wet look. You can get it at pretty much any drug store and it’s about 8 bucks. And because it’s a stain, it never gives you a weird chunky feel on your lips… and I think we can all agree that’s a plus.

Hip Tip - Hot HOT pink

The new hot trend in lip color is pink.  Pinks of ALL different colors but especially hot HOT pink.  You are seeing this all over the red carpet these days.  Hot pink was once reserved for just those hotties that could pull it off.  But now many cosmetics companies are coming out with shades that are designed for different skin types.  This is a look you may need to make a few mistakes with first so it’s worth heading to Mac or Ulta so you can test drive a few colors before you actually make a purchase.

Hip Tip - Perfect Pony

We have all seen that celebs have turned a pony tail into a hot hair style on the run way… but how to they take it from the tread mill pony to the red carpet pony.  It’s actually very simple.  All you need is a hair tie, a teasing comb and hair spray.  Step one: Pull your hair into a high pony. Then, slide the handle of the comb under the hair right above the elastic and tug gently to make a bump. Step Two: Lift the tail and tease its underside. Comb downward toward elastic to make an arc. This will give volume to your pony and leave you with perfect date night hair.

Hip Tip - 100 Calorie Hamburger Bun

In my pursuit to drop several LBs I have avoided bread… which is heart breaking cause bread is delicious.  But that means I haven’t had a burger or hot dog with a bun in a long time and while a burger wrapped in lettuce is tasty, it’s messy and doesn’t give you the same feel.  So I was so excited when I found Thins by earth grain.   They are super skinny hamburger buns, they also have hotdog buns that are 100 calories and made from Whole Wheat. It is a great way to curb your craving while maintaining that fabulous figure.

Hip Tip - Spring Shimmer

Spring is the time to put away your dark matte winter colors and lighten up!   Sheer colors are very in this year, with everything from green to orange showing up on eyes.   The key is to apply with a light hand and never extend too far from your lid to your brow, or you'll end up looking clownish.   Blue eyeliner has been seen all over the runways this season, but how to do it yourself?   If you are unsure, start with light sheer blues that you can apply with a fine tip. This is the time to start playing with new colors so when spring has sprung you have your new makeup routine perfected.

You have taken the time to tan on a regular basis… and when you are fresh out of the tanning bed your skin is flawless. But why put all of that work into looking son kissed if it won’t last?!   That’s where an after tan lotion can really help.  I use a moisturizer called Tinted Love from California Sun as soon as I get out of the shower and my tan last twice as long and tinted love has just a touch of sunless tanner. So add an after tan lotion to your beauty routine… especially as we head into warmer weather and smaller clothes.

You have found the perfect pair of jeans. Hip Tip - Get thin/ Have fun

Wanna burn a TON of calories and have a blast at the same time???  I have a new love and that is Air Robics at Skye High.  You’ve probably heard that sky high has trampoline arenas but you may not know that they have aerobics classes that are lead by an instructor. I burned 995 in one hour and was giggling the whole time.  They have classes on Saturday mornings at 10:00am but I will issue a warning, especially to you moms… it will make you want to pee the second you step on the trampoline so plan accordingly.

Hip Tip - How Many Calories Are you Burning??

If you are someone who has recently started working out… or you just want a more accurate idea of how you are doing. A great place to start is a heart rate monitor watch.   A heart monitor watch actually tracks your pulse and so once you enter in your personal info like height, weight and age… it can tell you exactly how many calories you are burning while you work out. You will get much closer to knowing how many calories you have actually burned then you will by just entering your info into say the tread mill for example.  I have found the most accurate style of these watches is the kind that includes a band that goes around your mid section… Most are around $50 and they are the perfect addition any workout routine.

HIP TIP- Kick that Stress

Stress can be a very powerful thing! Regardless of your age or what you do for a living… Stress can break down your body and even make you sick. Whether you stressed over work, school or even a relationship one way to overcome stress or at the very least reduce it dramatic is guided meditation. Guided meditation is literally just letting someone tell you how to relax using breathing.  I down loaded a few meditation sessions off of itunes by just putting in ‘guided meditation’ in the search field and found a ton of options.  This may sound too earthy for you but is completely worth a try.  You will find that your stress levels drop almost right away.

Hip Tip - Step by Step Smokey Eyes

Dark eye shadows work great as eyeliners!  Wet a small, slanted brush then dip into the dark eyeshadow.   Line your eyes as close to the upper lashes as you can, from the inner to outer corners.  Use eyeliner on the bottom eyes but start in the middle an go outwards.  If you are looking for a smokey look use another brush to pat in the dark eyeshadow on both the upper and lower lids.  Then feel free to smudge away…  This is exactly how you should do your eyes… for that perfect Sex in the City look.

HIP TIP - Say Yes to Leggings

There is something uniquely sexy about a pair of great leggings. The key to the perfect pair of leggings is the fit, color and fabric. Look for a pair of leggings that hug the legs without stretching or gathering excessively at the knees or ankles. Choose a fabric with spandex to ensure a sleek and comfortable fit. Leggings look best when worn with layers – throw on a gorgeous chunky knit sweater, a long blouse, tunic or cardigan. Add a scarf loosely wrapped around your neck, a slouchy hobo handbag and pair of long boots and you are ready to go!

Hip Tip - Spring 2011

An adorable trend that you can expect this spring is the vintage tennis outfit look.  I am talking well pressed pleated skirts that sit well above the knee and a well fitting V-neck sweater.  You can wear cute tennis shoes with this look or flats But try to avoid wearing thigh highs or tall socks… as appealing as that may be… it won’t give you the classy, chic look you are going for ;)

Hip Tip - No More Chapped Lips

During the cold and windy winter months... chapped lips can feel awful and look even worse.  Avoid licking your lips and use a moisturizing lipstick in the daytime hours and applying lip balm before you go to bed is a great way to heal sensitive lips.  To remove any unwanted dry skin off of your lips, you can exfoliate them with your toothbrush when you brush your teeth and in a pinch, add a dab of Vaseline to protect them.  The healthier your lips feel the better they will look and the more kissable soft they will feel.

One of the most obvious tips for staying healthy is washing your hands. But little good that will do you if you keep handling germs. One item that is infested with germs is your cell phone. Think of all the nasty places you bring your phone and how many people touch it.  Thats why it is important during cold and flu season to sanitize your phone as often as possible.  Sanitary wipes that you use to wipe down your phone at work will work just as well on your cell and won't be moist enough saturate into your phone. Hip Tip - Biker Jackets

River Road Womens Basic Motorcycle Jacket A huge fashion trend right now is biker jackets for women….Which used to be reserved for just the hardest of chics but has now been seen all over the run ways.  The main key to how to wear this season’s jacket is to get one that fits properly.   The cut is just as important—if not more important—than the quality of the leather. To get it just right, the sleeve should drop down an inch past your wrist, the shoulder should fit properly (not loose or too snug), and the bodice should cut in to define the waistline. This is a super hot look that screams sex appeal.

Hip Tip - Make Your Lip Stick Last

We have all tried the long last lip stick and while some work better than others… Most of us will agree… they feel kinda weird.  A great way to keep your lip sticks in place is by applying a thin layer of powder…before applying the lipstick.   The powder helps prevent smudging and will keep your lipstick in place.  Dab a bit of loose powder on a cotton swab or sponge and apply to your lips, including the lip line.   You will have a perfect pout that actually lasts and won’t get clumpy.

Hip Tip - Applying Eye Shadow to a Deep Crease

Some of you lucky ladies have the luxury of deep set eyes… I sadly am not one of the lucky ones.   But for those of you that are there is a trick to applying striking eye shadow colors.   Because applying a dark eye shadow color too deep into your crease can cause your eyes to actually look sunken in… which is not the look you are going for.   For you big eyed beauties, the key is to apply your dark eye shadow slightly above your crease, being conservative at first and applying to whatever degree you prefer.  An eye shadow sponge is a great tool for this… so try this tip and you will have an incredible crease.

Hip Tip - Make Your Perfume Last

Perfume can be expensive, so you probably want to conserve it whenever possible. Unfortunately, some perfume scents seem to fade too quickly… So here are some tips to make your favorite sent linger longer.. - Apply perfume or body spray to clean, healthy skin for best results. -Use actual perfume instead of body spray. Body Spray isn’t nearly as potent as actual perfume. - Remember that the body has pulse points that, if sprayed with perfume, will better emit the scent. In these spots, blood flow warms the perfume and causes the smell to be stronger. Use this to your advantage. Spraying perfume on your chest, behind your ears, or on your wrists, can help the scent last. So try a few of these tips and enjoy the sexiness of your own smell.

Hip Tip - Tight Tights

With the weather so chilly… it’s the perfect weather to add tights or stockings to your wardrobe. Not only do they look cute but you can add a little spice to your outfits.  But the one drawback to tights is the awful muffin top that they can cause.  Not only are they SO narrow in the waste… I mean, who is that small…?  But often times they are impossibly long and get pulled way past your belly button. So here is what you do, use scissors to cut down the front of your tights… right on the seam.  Then add a little nail polish at the base of the cut to avoid tearing and you will have perfectly fitting, perfectly cute tights.

Hip Tip - Eye Primer

We all admit… eye shadow is a beautiful thing.  It can make your eyes look bigger, deeper and over all stand out as a beautiful feature on your face. And while choosing the right colors is vital, another element that can often be over looked is an eye lids primer.  An eye lid primer is basically evening out your eye lids before you apply eye shadow. Evening out is necessary for most women because our eye lids can be blue or darker than the rest of our face and that discoloration can actually alter the color of the eye shadows you wear. So whether you go for a liquid primer or a powder like I do… make sure this is a step you never skip.

Hip Tip - Perfect Day Two Hair

We have talked a lot about the importance of washing your hair every other day at least… If you can go a little longer… that’s even better. But there is nothing more frustrating than making up with a kink in your hair from your hair tie… Or maybe you just have severe bed head. A great way to get a “just washed” look… is by spraying your hair down with just a little water. This is one of those hip tips that is almost too easy… Get a squirt bottle… you can get them at the dollar store… Lightly spray your hair down so that the first layer of your hair is damp… not soaked. Then blow your hair dry as you normally would… Your hair will look perfectly styled and no one will ever on you are on day there.

Hip Tip - Elegent Bun

An elegant and graceful hairstyle that can be perfect for a fancy dinner or an important board meeting is the classic bun.  The bun is a look that used to be considered frumpy or something only grandmothers would wear but is now one of the most romantic looks a girl can go for. And another benefit of the bun… It’s crazy simple. An ultra easy way to create a perfect looking bun is by pulling your hair into a simple pony tail…  Twist your hair around the center of the pony tail and pin it in place with plenty of bobby pins.  Then use hair spray generously. Play with this look… part your hair in different ways… try a low bun, high bun.. what ever look, looks best on YOU!

You probably noticed that when you go to the salon to have your hair done, it seems to last for days at a time. Hip Tip - Dress Sexy During Cold Weather

It’s easy during the cold weather months to just put on layer upon layer to stay warm… the only problem with that is that you figure will vanish.   Opt for a cozy sweater on top and tight jeans on bottom so confirm that yes, you are all women under there.  It’s also important to find the right winter coat.  Again, you might want to lean toward bulky just to stay warm but a winter coat that is tapered in the back or ties at the waste will be much more flattering… So stay warm and stay sexy and above all, feel comfortable

Hip Tip - Take a Day Off

Working out is great for your health and weight lose.   BUT, if you’re work outs are leaving you overly soar… keep a low dose pain reliever, Advil, Tylenol, whatever works for you, in your gym bag and use it when needed.  It’s ok to work out through your soreness BUT if you are so soar that it affects your gate… it’s important for you to take a day or two off.  If you try to push yourself too hard, you run the risk of injuring yourself by adjusting your body to accommodate your aches and pains. So keep up the good work… but don’t beat yourself up if you need a break… look at it this way… you earned it!

Hip Tip - Better Boobs

Today’s hip tip was a bit of wisdom passed down to me from my friend Dr. Lee at the Lee Institute of Plastic surgery. You need to wear a good bra.  Ok, that’s obvious… what I mean is you need to wear a good bra, all the time, even when you sleep.  Sleeping in a bra that offers support is one of the best ways to slow the effects of gravity.   I recommend a really supportive sports bra, you know the kind that actually has hooks in the back…And stay away from anything with an underwire just for comfort reasons. Start this now and it is a tip that is sure to pay off later.

Hip Tip - Cocktail Calorie Guide

For those who are trying to protect their diet and consume fewer carbohydrates choosing light beers such as Michelob Ultra or wine can help. Light beer equals low carbohydrate. They contain the same amount of alcohol but fewer calories. On average here is how beer and wine choices look for calorie consumption:
  • Port wine (3 oz): 128
  • Bloody Mary (5 oz): 118
  • Red wine (5 oz): 120
  • White wine (5 oz): 120
  • Alcohol-free wine (5 oz): 20-30
  • Beer (12 oz): 150-198
  • Light beer (12 oz): 95-136
  • Ultra-light beer (12 oz): 64-95
For punches and tropical cocktail options liquor should be limited as well. These recipes often contain sugary mixed options that pack the calories in a small glass. Try to substitute recipes using artificial sweeteners or sugar free syrups to keep the calorie content at a minimum for your next party. Here are some ideas of how liquor calories stack up:
  • Wine spritzer (5 oz): 100
  • Spiced cider with rum (8 oz): 150
  • Screwdriver (8 oz): 190
  • Mimosa (4 oz): 75
  • Rum and Coke (8 oz): 185
  • Rum and Diet Coke (8 oz): 100
  • Green apple martini (1 oz each vodka, sour apple, apple juice): 148
  • Martini (2.5 oz): 160
  • Champagne (5oz): 106-120
No matter your drink of choice during the festivities always be safe. Don’t drink and drive (or drink if you are underage) instead have cab fair on hand or a designated driver for safe transportation. Don’t leave your beverage unattended as it could lead you to become a victim of drink spiking. Leaving your drink unguarded could make it susceptible to being mixed with GHB or Rohypnol (roofies) a.k.a. the date rape drug. Better safe than sorry so have a friend watch your drink or simply dump your old drink and order a fresh one. Over consumption of alcohol is hazardous to your health. It can lead to stomach, liver and kidney problems that can be fatal. So drink responsibly and enjoy the party season fun in good health.

Hip Tip - Eye Shadow for Fair Skinned Beauties

For fair skinned beauties, finding eye shadow can be a huge challenge.  So instead of telling what colors you SHOULD wear… I am going to give you a guide to which colors to stay away from. Aqua: it may depend on how fair your skin is, but this color will not work well. Pink: if you have fair skin and a pink hue to your skin OR if you are a  red head pink should not be a color on your list. Olive Green: it will make you appear sick and haggard because of its touch of yellow. Dark black: too much black will give you a look of a losing fighter. Try brown or charcoal grey instead. Now, take a little time practicing with other colors, avoiding the affore mentioned of course.

Add it to a matching scarf, warm sweater and jeans and you have yourself a festive holiday outfit that will still keep you looking hot.

But did you know it can give the illusion that you are thinner and leaner then if you hunch your shoulders forward.  Here’s how you start.  Using a mirror, align your ears, shoulders, and hips.  Proper alignment places your ears loosely above your shoulders, above your hips.  You'll find that this doesn't hurt at all.  If you do experience pain, look at your side view in a mirror to see if you're forcing your back into an unnatural position.  If so, stop it!

Hip Tip - Coloring Your Hair at Home

We are all looking to save money these days and if you are coloring your hair at home, I have a HUGE tip for you.
Make sure you don't try to color your hair while it is clean.   You should not shampoo your hair for 24 to 48 hours before the color is added. You need your scalp to have some natural oils present, which helps the color adhere better.
Also with unwashed scalp, the color will penetrate deeper into the hair follicles, making it last longer.

It will get you one step closer to having a salon quality look

Hair Serum

Hip Tip - Sexy Smooth Legs

If you are looking for the smoothest, sexiest legs possible, there is one thing you need to stop doing IMMEDIATELY.
Stop using soap as a lubricant to shave your legs.  Most of us do this and don't realize we are doing the worst thing possible for our legs because shaving opens your pours, letting the soap in to dry them out.
So use shaving cream!! It doesn't have to be fancy... Use your mans shaving cream if you want
and then before you even leave the bathroom, moisturize your legs with a fregarance free lotion.
Follow these simple guidelines and you will have flawlessly hot legs!

Cleaning your Make-up Brushes

So you spent a small fortune on make up brushes. And that's good because your brushes can make or break your make up routine. But it's important to keep them clean. So here's what you should do. Wash them once a month, but it's important NOT to use hand soap. The detergents in hand soap are harsh and can strip the brushes. Instead, use a drop of baby shampoo to create a little lather, then rinse and air-dry. It’s a very simple way to make sure your brushes stand the test of time!

Mood Nail Polish

Remember mood rings from the '80s? Well, now there's a mood nail polish, which changes colors depending on how you feel. It works based on your body temp (when you're calm, your body is cooler and when you're worked up, your body is hotter) and changes color depending on how hot you are. You can get it at Walgreens and CVS, and it is a fun beauty tip that will hopefully improve your mood.

Hip Tip - Less Caffeine

Want better, more hydrated skin? Well you may have to kick a few habits. Reducing the amount of caffeine you drink can help your skin dramatically. Jolt-causing beverages like soda, energy drinks, and coffee constrict your blood vessels, so less fluid flows through your skin — hence, dehydration. I’m not saying you have to turn to a caffeine free diet, but limiting your intake will make a dramatic difference. You will have clearer, glowing skin… and less jitters.

You can snag it at CVS and probably any other drug store and its under 10 bucks. So whether you are team Edward or team Jacob, this is the perfect look to get attention from Vampires and werewolves.

Perfect Penciled Eyebrows

So you over waxed or over plucked your eye brows. How do you fill it in with out making your brows look completely drawn on? First, pick a pencil that matches your brow color. Fill in the entire brow, not just bald spots — this is key to making sure everything blends together. Then fix extra thin areas (like where your outer brow connects to the arch) with more pencil. Finish by feathering out the color. Brush a clean mascara wand through each brow in short strokes to diffuse any harsh lines. You will fix the problem... and no one will be the wiser!

Men's V-Neck Shirts

A very cute, very cheap look this summer is jean shorts and a simple V neck, men’s under shirt. You've probably noticed a lot of stars that are sporting this look, like Kesha, Demi Moore, and Britney. They are all sporting one of the least expensive outfits available and making it look good. You can get a package of V-neck men’s shirts almost anywhere: Kohl’s, Wal-Mart, or Target. Make sure you get one size smaller then you would normally wear because A) they are guy sizes and B) you want it to be a little snug. Then add jean shorts and flip flops or wedges and you have the perfect out fit for any BBQ, hanging at the lake, or just worshiping the sun!

Hip Tip - Teal Nail Polish

This summer’s color is TEAL. Teal everything! Low wasted gypsy skirts, jewelry, and even nail polish. Teal nail polish is huge right now. It looks great on everyone, and it even enhances your tan. It’s best to use it on your toes exclusively. You can use it on your finger nails but it is a VERY bold color for your hands, so keep that in mind. It is a must have item that no girl should live with out!

Hip Tip - SwitchFlops

I want to paint a picture for you; imagine if you had one pair of shoes that went with EVERY OUTFIT YOU HAVE… Well it can happen. There is a new shoe called SwitchFlops that actually let you change out the strap of the flip flops or wedge to match what you’re wearing. And I’m not talking just a cheap, plastic strap; I’m talking a really nice woven strap that could come with leather, rhinestones, beads, really whatever you want. Check them out at SwitchFlops.com. This is not only fun and easy; it’s also going to save you a fortune on shoes!

Ponytail Wrap

We all know that scrunchies are a thing of the past, and if you didn’t know… you know now! But sometimes even a miss matched hair band can take away from the perfect hair do. So, hide it with hair. Style your hair in a pony tail, split part, straight back, little bump, doesn’t matter. Then, from the back side of the pony tail grab about a half inch of hair and wrap it around you hair tie. Then smooth it with lots of hair spray. With two bobby pins, pin it down under the pony tail so the pins are hidden. This is very chic look that takes VERY little work!

Cuticle Oil

Having beautiful nails is more than just choosing the right nail polish. It’s very important to take care of your hands especially your cuticles. Rough and dry cuticles can completely take away from a great manicure. That’s why cuticle oil should be a part of every girl’s beauty regimen. It’s really in expensive and you can get it at literally ANY drug store. It’s usually just a few bucks… you can spend more if you want but the results are the same. Wash your hands in warm water before you go to bed and massage the oil into your skin. You will notice healthy looking nails over night.

14 Karat Gold Tanning Lotion

You wouldn’t believe how tan I am right now. I can safely say this is the darkest I have ever been. Why? Because I recently started using 14 Karat Gold tanning lotion, and it has made me twice as dark and the tan really lasts. Now when I say dark, I of course mean dark for me (pale, redhead)…So if you are someone who doesn’t struggle to darken up as much as I do then this lotion is going to make you look amazing. I get mine at California Sun Centers and I returned the empty bottle of my last lotion and got $10 off, but you can also find it online at the-tanning-store.com. You will be blown away at how flawless and fabulous your beautiful skin looks!

Hip Tip- June 25, 2010

Today’s hip tip is going to make you look great and save a ton of money. It’s time for you to start considering shopping at second hand stores and here is why. Besides the fact that you  spend a fraction of the cash you would at any other store, you will find very cool stuff that no one else has. Now you may think second hand stores are filled with old lady clothes…not true. I just got a pair of seven jeans for 4 dollars and a gap skirt for three…the key is to find the right store. Go to really nice areas, and find THEIR second hand stores…they are loaded with designer labels for pennies. You will look amazing, you'll have a personalized style and you will have extra money to go out with…

Keep Your Legs Smooth with Conditioner

Today’s hip tip sounds a little silly but it works and it’s free. Now that it’s officially shorts season, dry skin on your legs is NOT an option. But if you run out of lotion, or am like me and can’t put lotion on after shaving because you have really sensitive skin. A great way to have silky smooth legs is to use your hair conditioner. It really is that easy. Shave your legs, then use your conditioner as you would your lotion. Then rinse it off and your done. Your legs will feel as great as they look!

Velcro Rollers

If you love using Velcro curlers to add volume to your hair, here is a tip that will give you way more volume and sex appeal. Towel dry your hair then mist a leave-in conditioner on your ends followed by a volummizer all over. Flip your head over and start blow-drying your roots while pulling them away from your scalp with your fingers, then dry the rest of your hair until it’s slightly damp. With your hair slightly damp, put in the Velcro rollers in and blow dry the rest until its 100% dry. Your hair will be big, beautiful, and full of life.

Hip Tip - Anti-Chafing Gel

This summer, just like every Sacramento summer, is going to be insanely hot! And there is nothing worse than wearing a skirt and you’re sweating to the point that your thighs rub together and it starts to hurt. Come on… just admit it, it happens. So try Lanacane Anti-Chafing Gel. I can’t believe it took so long for this product to come out. It starts out as a gel then feels like a powder on your skin. You can get it at almost any drug store. Get it and you’ll feel breezy all summer long.

Hip Tip - Mystic Tan

I have been perfecting the art of Mystic Tan and I think it’s time for me to share my findings. It’s all about the details. After you mystic tan, you need to get a good pat down ritual; Start with your ankles and move your way up your leg. Remember always go from bottom to top then get your arms (forearms and under arms are some of the most difficult parts). Then do your neck and the rest of your body. This is the best way to get a flawless Mystic Tan that makes you look perfect!

If you are into Yoga but not into being shoeless at the gym, because it gives you the heebie jeebies, I found a pair of sandals designed just for Yoga that are eco friendly, and pretty inexpensive. Hip Tip- Ulta Lash Extension

I have been having an eyelash crisis for the past few weeks. For some reason I felt like no matter what mascara I used, I had short stumpy lashes. Then I tried Ulta’s Lash Extension. And at first I was so skeptical because it has a super skinny brush, but my lashes look SO long. Now I have to warn you, it goes on REALLY wet. So you have to do that thing where you don’t open your eyes to wide and you don’t close them to tight or you’ll get mascara everywhere. But beyond that it’s the best mascara I’ve ever used. Ulta brand Lash extension. You’ll have super long and super lovely lashes, all day and all night.

Hip Tip - Pedicure File

You know how your feet feel AMAZING after you’ve had a pedicure, so soft that you almost feel lighter. Well, most of us can’t get a pedicure every day, but there is a way to feel like you have. If you get a really good pedicure file and use it EVERY TIME you shower, not some times, not when you think about it, but every time! Your feel wont build up that thick layer of skin on your heals that you get especially when you are walking around in bare feet during the summer. I use the Opi, pedicure foot file which is a little pricey... but its SO worth it. It’s a must have item for sandal season!

Mederma Stretch Mark Therapy

Ok, most of us have stretch marks. If your a mom you might have them almost every where and even if your not, we have all found a stretch mark or 5 on our thighs, hips, stomach or even, boobs. Its ok to admit it, I’m right there with you. I finally caved and tried Mederma Stretch mark therapy and I am SO happy I did. I actually wore a bikini this weekend... not a tankini a real bikini, and sure you could see some over my stretch marks but they were SO much lighter. You can get it at CVS or mederma.com. It’s a super small investment that will make a world of difference!

Hip Tip - Headbands

NEWS FLASH: Headbands are not what they used to be. The days of a single strip of band keeping your bangs out of your eyes are long gone and It’s time to embrace a bigger and more extravagant look; large bows. Lots of sparkle or lots of beads are a great way to step your outfit up a notch. And they are a perfect addition for an outfit during wedding season. And extravagant dressing doesn't need to cost a fortune. Stores like Forever 21 have super fun head bands for like only 10 bucks. Hip Tip - Love Culture PJs

I have found the MOST comfy warm weather jammies EVER, and they are totally cheap. They are a one piece jammie tank on top shorts on bottom, and just a little elastic at the waste to give it a little bit of billowing in the middle. I got it at Love Culture in the Galleria on sale for NINE dollars on Saturday and basically lived in it all weekend. Buy as many as you can while they are still available. You will sleep like a baby but look like a Diva.

Hip Tip - Croc Wedges

Crocs aren’t what they used to be. You may not know this, but Crocs have a lot more styles than their classic and flip flops. They now have very cute ballet flats and my personal favorite… wedges! I know the idea of wedges from Crocs sounds a little strange but they look JUST like any other wedge and come in several different colors, yet they still FEEL like Crocs. So this summer, pain doesn’t have to be beauty, just wear Croc wedges with your cutest jean skirt and be as comfortable as you are adorable. Believe me, this is a tip that you will thank me for later.

Hip Tip - Tunic dresses

Shorts are getting ultra short this year and skirts are too. But, if you want to pull off the ultimate in sexy without reaching for the micro-mini, add a long dress with a high slit to your wardrobe. In fact, you should add several! Long tunic-style dresses are very hot this summer. To bump it up a notch, a mid-thigh length slit will take it to the next level. Couple this look with strappy wedges and it will look perfect at a nice dinner or a backyard BBQ.

Hip Tip - Short Shorts

If ever there was a time to hit the gym, it’s this summer. Shorts are going to be much shorter this year than ever before. Hot pants, boy shorts, and tap pants are all variations on this shorter-than-short style. And while super short isn't a great look for everyone, it’s worth trying them on. You'd be amazed at how good this style can look on even those of us with thicker legs. Short Shorts with a long hipster tank is a very good look for a curvatious figure. So go as short as you can this year, and I promise you will be turning heads all summer long.

Hip Tip - Deep Clean

If your make-up remover is leaving you with a racoon-like look around your eyes, switch it up and try Pond's Cool Cucumber Deep Cleanser & Make-Up Remover.  It deep cleans your skin but also does a really great job removing make-up.  And with the warm weather approaching the cucumber makes your skin feel so cool and so clean.  The best thing about this face wash is it leaves your face feeling amazing.  You know how your face feels after a facial?  That's what it feels like.  You can find it at Walgreens or at Wal-Mart.  Wal-Mart is actually having a buy one, get one free sale so that is probably the best way to go.  This cleanser will leave you with a perfectly fresh face and naturally glowing!

Hip Tip - Joli Nail Spa

I have found the BEST mani/pedi place; Joli Nail Spa in the Fountains in Roseville! It is so cute and so chic and you don’t have to spend a fortune to get pampered. I am a little weird cause I never get pedicures. I am so ticklish that by the end of the pedicure I’m a huge ball of tension and ready to get out of there. But at Joli Nail spa they went out of their way to make sure I was relaxed the whole time, and just go through the motions like some places do. I had no idea a pedicure could be so wonderful and so relaxing, so make an appointment today. It’s the perfect way to get a mini spa day without breaking the bank!

Hip Tip - Smoky Eyes

If you’re having a night out, a great smoky look for your eyes requires dark brown and dark blue eye shadows. It may sound a little odd, but stay with me… Put a cream colored based on your lids, then light lightly brush the brown from eyelash to crease. Finally, heavily add a midnight blue in the crease. This will give you great dimension without detracting from your beautiful eye color. With this tip, you will be a show-stopping, head-turning, and ready for any occasion.

Hip Tip - Dazzle Dry

You love painting your nails. Who doesn’t? But the worst part of painting your own nails is how quickly they chip, especially if you are a super active chick or mom. I have finally found a product that will keep your polish looking flawless for twice as long. It’s called Dazzle Dry top coat and base coat. It actually dries your nails from the top and bottom, and fast. You can find it at most beauty supply stores but you can also get the entire kit at vbcosmetics.com. Your nails will always have a straight out the beauty salon look.

Hip Tip - Weight Training

I've got another little tip that will make a big difference in the weight loss department.  We all know cardio is crucial in shedding pouns, but if you aren't doing weight training you are doing yourself a disservice.  Light weight training, even once a week, will increase your metabolism in a big way.  You don't have to do an insane amount of weight or worry that you are going to get huge.  In fact, you don't even have to belong to a gym.  Walk around the block with 3 pound weights.  Or you could try using exercise bands for resistance.  For some motivation and ideas you can go to Sparkpeople.com.  It's a great first step to reaching you weight loss goals.

Hip Tip - Man Hair

Okay guys, if you have been rocking the combed forward Bieber hair, or the blow dried and jelled Pauly D look, it’s time to put them both to bed. This summer the trend for men’s hair styles gives you two options: the long and messy on top, while cropped on the sides and in the back (ala Al Pacino), or the super short, party on the side school boy cut (think Ashton Kutcher in his Nikon camera commercials). Both looks are sexy, stylish, and look good on just about everyone.

Hip Tip - Summer style

This summer, you'll want to lean towards clothes that have as little embellishment as possible. This means, plain cotton tees, jean skirts, jean or khaki shorts with little or no embroidery on the pockets and simple flip flops or Roman sandals. So where will you get your fabulousness? With your jewelry. Be almost Gypsy-like with your jewelry. Wear two to three necklaces of all different lengths, several bracelets and large earrings. You will be perfectly Bohemian in your summer style.

Hip Tip- Metabolism

In my quest to be thinner I have found a great way to increase my metabolism, and it will work for you too. When you hit the treadmill, instead of just walking or running do both! Run three minutes, and walk three minutes. Do that on and off for about 30 minutes. You will be shocked at how quickly you will start shedding inches in your middle and around your hips. This hip tip will get you that much closer to your perfect bathing suit bod.

Hip Tip - Get Your Home Ready For Spring

Here are a few ways to change your home to make it feel more like Spring: - Take down heavy curtains and sheer ones; this will let more light in. - Put away all throws or blankets you are using for decorative purposes. - Add at least one pastel colored accessory, even if it’s a small one it will add nice color to your living space. - Try to have fresh flowers in your home at all times. They don’t have to be over the top or expensive, because even grocery store flowers will add a nice touch to your home. Try these tips and your home will feel new, fresh, and comfy. And you don’t have to break the ban k to make it happen!

Hip Tip - Waist Trimmer

If you want to shed a few inches around the middle, a good way to speed the process along is wearing a sports girdle during work outs.  The girdle has a neoprene, which is similar to rubber, on the inside which makes you sweat almost three times as much around your tummy.  So any extra water weight around your stomach gets sweated out and your waist is being contoured at the same time.  I have noticed a dramatic difference especially around my love handle areas.  i got mine at Big 5 but you can always find them online at Amazon.com.  You will be slimmer, trimmer, and feeling all around better and looking great in your bikini this Summer.

Hip Tip - Ankle Strap

This summer all your shoes need to have one very important element, and that is an ankle strap. Whether you are wearing stilettos, roman sandals or just tie up wedges. Make sure they all have a solid strap around the ankle. This is especially true if you have slightly larger legs. Wearing a shoe with a strap around the ankle draws the eye in under the calf and makes your legs appear longer and sleeker. But you have to make sure the strap fits comfortably, even a little loosely around the ankle otherwise it can create the opposite effect. You can find a ton of cute ankle strap options on the Victoria Secret web site.

Hip Tip - Better Butt

We are all in pursuit of a better butt, right? Well if you have been wondering if those new Reebok Easytones actually help your booty and legs, they totally do! They are a little pricey. For most styles, you should expect to pay around $100 but you can’t put a price on a better butt, can you? So wear those short shorts this summer and before you know it, you will be known for your super cute, super toned derriere.

Hip Tip - Gorgeous Gams

If you’re like me and you need a little help in the tanning department, then I found a great product that will help your legs tan two times darker. It’s called Gorgeous Gams. I get mine at California Sun Center, but you can buy it for $18 online at www.tanfastic.com. And for those of you that enjoy high end tanning lotions then you know that 18 dollars is a really low price. You try it for yourself and your legs will look bronze and beautiful. That’s perfect for shorts season!

Hip Tip - Intuition

I want to say a little bit about following your intuition. Whenever you get the gut feeling, whether it be a college you are going to, another school, or maybe a guy youre dating or a girl, any kind of new situation in your life it is generally good to go with your gut.  That little tiny voice that tells you what to do is usually right thing to do.  All I can say is follow your dreams, follow your intuition, and you will probably never go wrong.

Hip Tip - Backtacular

An American designer has come up with an invention that covers up your 'butt cleavage' when wearing low-rise jeans. The Backtacular Gluteal Cleft Shield is an adhesive fabric patch that's applied directly to the skin on the lower back.  The creator came up with the idea while sporting her favorite jeans, which exposed too much of her 'gluteal cleft' whenever she sat or bent over. The patch is made of hypo-allergenic denim and decorated with studs and rhinestones and comes in several colors and designs including butterflies, flowers, hearts, and peace signs. The BGCS can be bought online at www.kimberlilyonline.com

Hip Tip - Photos

A new study came out that said when taking pictures that the best photographs for everyday, not professionally or anything, the pictures that seem the most appealing to the eye are the ones where people are wearing different colors. Not all the same shirt but just plain shirts or jackets all one color, but not the same as the rest of the people in the photo. Keep that in mind when getting cute pics of you and your bestie.

Hip Tip - Testing Nail Polish colors

How frustrating is it when you think you are going to love a nail polish color when it’s in the bottle only to put it on and have it look terrible? Here’s a tip! Take a piece of clear tape and put it on your nail and brush the color over it for an instant look at whether or not the shade is right for you.

Hip Tip - Neutral Clothing

This spring and summer a huge trend you will see is neutral clothing. The grey’s the peach tones all will really stand out because they are more timeless than large graphic prints. Rule of thumb if you do a neutral top you have to do neutral or black shoes. And on the other side of the spectrum are masculine tones. This could be a rolled up blazer, a vest, or a man’s tie rolled up as a headband. Mix it up with these two trends and you will look stylish and put together this summer.

Hip Tip - Making It Fresh

If you’re ever in a hurry but don’t have anything that smells clean enough to wear in public, here is a quick fix that will have you out the door in no time. Throw the clothes you want to wear in the dryer and pump a few squirts of Febreze in there. Turn the dryer on and in 15-20 minutes your clothes will smell so fresh and so clean. And if you don’t believe me, ask a friend to give you a whiff.

Hip Tip - Allergies

If you are like me and my friends, your allergies are on high alert.  It stinks, but there is something you can do to lessen the allergies in your house.  First, vacuum often.  I know that is not that easy, but think of it as cheap therapy and a way to distress.  Keep furniture out like wood, metal, or leather that is simple to dust off and keep the windows shut during the day to avoid moisture getting into your home causing mold and other growth problems.  It won’t cure your allergies, but it will at least soften the blow.

Hip Tip - Bedspread

I was walking out of West Elm and I heard a group of girls saying “I love how beds look in furniture stores.” It is so true! They look comfortable and fluffy and so inviting. If you want your bed spread to get back its “Oomph” take your bedspread or down comforter and toss it in the dryer with a few tennis balls. Add a few extra pillows to your bed and you got yourself a bed from a magazine… That won’t just look good, but feel great too.

Hip Tip - Flat Iron

You know that tried and true flat iron that you love so much? Well it goes beyond hair. For a quick wrinkle release, try it on your shirt sleeves (while you are not wearing them of course, the edge of a table cloth or even ribbons and other small items. It’s a great alternative to getting out the giant ironing board.

Hip Tip - Cinnamon

Trying to beat the hunger pains that arrive at 10 in the morning and two in the afternoon? Try cinnamon! Yep this sweet spice actually helps to regulate your blood sugar levels. Sprinkle some into your hot chocolate or tea, or mix it into plain yogurt or applesauce. The results are you won’t feel in a slump because you're hungry and you won’t be adding tons of extra calories to your meals either!

Hip Tip - Mix It Up

When it comes to jewelry you don’t have to shop at Tiffany’s to look good.  And to be honest, the more you mix it up the better you will look.  Mixing pearls with rhinestones, adding old stuff with new really creates a look that will be good with an evening gown to a t-shirt.  The rules are thrown out the window.  Go through your jewelry box and decide what looks new and what looks retro and pair them together for a whole new look.

Hip Tip - Getting Rid of the Fishy Smell

My friend Leslie told me that she LOVES fish and making fish because it is so good for you, but hates how the house or apartment reeks after you make it in the oven.  If you don't have an outdoor way of cooking seafood - the the oven is your only option, but after you take the fish out of the oven, take a baking sheet and sprinkle cinnamon on it back in the oven at 250 for about 10 minutes.  The whole house will smell lovely and no one will know you had your fish and ate it to.

Hip Tip - Omegas

People who regularly pile their plates with fruits, veggies, nuts, whole grains, and fish are 30 percent less likely to become depressed than those who don’t eat this kind of diet. The omegas in these foods improve blood vessel function and heighten mood. Not to mention they aren’t high in trans fat so with a diet like this you will not only feel better but look better too!

Hip Tip - Slouchy Satchels

Slouchy satchels are big for summer bags – you can put so much stuff in them and the key to a great satchel is across the shoulder straps- it’s a great way to look relaxed ye polished. Usually made of leather or faux leather the slouchy satchel is a great accessory for the laid back days of summer.

Hip Tip - TOMS

Sequins are actually back in a whole new way this spring. They are trying to sell them on a pair of Keds for 88 dollars! What? Well, try TOMS shoes because every shoe bought is a pair of shoes donated for a kid who can’t afford shoes, and they are half the price! You can get some gold or silver sequins for like 44 bucks.

Hip Tip - Fashion Blues

BLUE!  It’s huge this Spring, especially DENIM; vests, skirts, jackets, jeans.  Here’s the deal though, you can mix your denims without looking like you’re wearing a Canadian tuxedo (aka head to toe in jean).  You have to do it with finesse a dark jacket over a light dress or white striped shirt with jean vest and dark blue jeans.  Basically keep the lighter color on top and wear it with brown accessories, totally cute and you won’t look like a farmer, I promise!

Hip Tip - Hair Style

When it comes to spring hair styles they’ve changed since last year. So say so long to super short cuts because hair that hits the shoulder and even goes a couple inches below is super cute! Also, instead of the pony tail, a braid casually going over one shoulder is super chic and easy to do even with wet hair. It looks care free and don’t worry if you have fly-aways it’s supposed to look like an afterthought!

Hip Tip - White Nail Polish

Want to make your neon nail polish really look bright and not have to use 50 million coats? Well, use your white nail polish, the one you have a ton of because you only do French manicures with it, as a base coat. It will really help your bright colors show up full and vibrant! And your white polish won't get old and crusty in the process.

Hip Tip - Wrinkle Reality

Wrinkles and fine lines might not be worth losing sleep over. The geometry of your face will give away your age before anyone notices crow's feet. One feature that determines face geometry is the nose. Most facial features stop growing after adolescence, but the nose and ears never stop. A large nose in relation to the rest of the face is a sign of an older person. Use a contour brush and bronzor or powder a little lighter than your face down the bridge and the same shade on the sides to shrink your nose instead of using a hundred-dollar wrinkle cream.

Hip Tip - Gym Etiquette

When it comes to working out there is some etiquette involved, like the 30 minute rule. BUT what if you are training for something and need more than 30 minutes? Avoid going at off peak times like early morning or after work. If you are training for a race try 30 minutes on a tread mill and spend your time other places like the elliptical or bike. And if you are the one that needs the equipment then you could try to tell the person you are waiting but the safer bet is to tell the person at the front desk and let them enforce the rules.

Hip Tip - Lost Love

Researchers say that if you're having trouble getting over a lost love, you might help yourself by storing items.  That means putting something related to a failed romance into a box or envelope.  The researchers found that the physical act of sealing things up improved people's negative feelings towards the event and created closure. If you tell people, "you've got to move on," that doesn't work What works is when people enclosematerials that are relevant to the negative memories they have.  It works because people aren't trying to explicitly control their emotions.

Hip Tip - Listening Is Healthy

A new study came out that said people who interrupt others are at the biggest risk for heart disease. The combination of being competitive and controlling really does a number on your heart for the long term.  Researchers said there is one thing that people who chronically interrupts can do and it doesn't have anything to do with diet, exercise, or medicine.  These people can just practice being better listerners.  That's it, and you reduce your risk.  Practice hearing what people are saying and responding to exactly what they say and in no time you will be a great listener and you will be lowering your risk for heart disease.

Hip Tip - Play up Your Asset

When it comes to playing up your asset it seems that playing up your rear is a good go-to-plan. Even if you have no butt you can still make the most of it with large pockets on your jeans, and don’t get the pockets that are too low because this doesn’t do you any favors. Also, keep jackets and hoodies above the waist too to showcase that rear, and avoid the flap back pockets too because they just add volume without defining your shape.

Hip Tip - Problem Solver

It’s easy to get into a funk about how you are feeling, but a great way to start your day off right is to say something nice to someone else.  The moment you move your attention to someone else and off of your problem you will start to feel better.  One of the keys to living to 100 is to not mull over your problems because it won’t help in the long run.  Jot a quick note to a family member, bring a snack to a co-worker or just saying a genuine compliment to someone.  It will lift your spirits and help you focus on what is really important in life, the people.  And if that doesn’t help, it is Friday tomorrow!

Hip Tip - Kombucha

Because I am not a huge drinking fan here are some other green beverages you can consume that are super good and some are actually good for you. Kombucha multi-green, this actually will give you a slight buzz and it’s so good for you! Green tea, self-explanatory, and of course McDonald’s shamrock shake! Yum! You can stick your diet, sobriety, or morals even on major drinking holidays!

Hip Tip - Smaller Pores

Nothing makes a face look fresher than small pores, and if they are clogged they will only appear larger so using a good but Gental exfoliate that is good for everyday, and always always rinse your face with cold water - it restricts the pores as opposed to warm water which leaves your kin open to dirt and air plus if you rinse with cold water it will wake you up and will reduce any puffiness.

Hip Tip - Stain-Proof Nails

When it comes to spring you have to have your feet in tip top shape, and what really sucks is when you take off the bright red polish and the nail is sort of stained red. How can you go to French manicure when your toes look red around the creases? Investing in a good base coat is the way to go to avoid any staining on your nail. OPI makes a great one that puts down a great matte finish and allows you change colors all the time and your feet will look fabulous!

Hip Tip - South Beach Bars

When it comes to breakfast on the go, check out South Beach Bars.  My favorite flavor is cinnamon raisen and they are seriously amazing.  They count for one carb and one protein, that means 10 grams of protein in one of these little babies.  I eat one in teh car on the way into work and I don't get hungry for 5 hours.  Eat it with your coffee and it is delish.  This is a delightful and smart way to start the day.

Hip Tip - Natural Toothpaste

Ya know I just started using natural toothpaste…at first I thought it was silly but then I started looking at the ingredients in regular toothpaste and there is some crazy chemicals in there. So I picked up some natural toothpaste and it's actually really good! I mean if you eat organic or clean diet anyway then why not take that to something else you ingest every single day…your toothpaste. Check out Burts Bees Natural Toothpaste no artificial dyes, flavors, or harsh ingredients!

Hip Tip - Rapid Lash

I have talked about this before but I got an email from a listener a couple of days raving about rapid lash eyelash lengthener - my mother in law turned me on to this stuff - claiming if totally worked on her so I checked it out and then about 6 months ago told you guys about it... well Steph a wake up call listener said she has been using it since then and can't believe the results! Hip Tip - Baby Safety

I don’t normally talk about kid related stuff in my hip top, but this is more of a hip warning.  I have seen time and time again people putting their baby car seats on top of shopping carts.  They teeter the baby bucket on top of the child’s seat part of a shopping cart.  Truth be told, car seats are not made to go up there.  And yesterday I saw one fall off the cart WITH a baby in it!!!  Place your baby IN the cart if you are going to do that.  It’s not worth chancing your baby falling off.  Even if you don’t have a child, how would you feel if you knocked one off?  So just play it safe and don’t place your baby up there.

Hip Tip - Pale Colors

A great way to make a room or a work space feel better and more chipper is with color, but what people usually overlook is pale colors. Believe it or not your mood can respond to paler colors easier than harsh dramatic colors. Take some time today and clean up your work space, clear papers and clutter to a designated spot, and anytime you can decorate use one or two pale blues or green colors, you will notice your mood go up and your stress level go down.

Hip Tip - Make Up Clean Up

bathroomcounter Here’s another quick tip for your Spring cleaning: The next hotspot for Spring cleaning is your bathroom or makeup counter.  Cosmetics DO have expiration dates, but let’s be honest; if you aren’t using that makeup what’s the point of it clogging up your cosmetic bag and drawers?  If it hasn’t been used you can donate it, but if it’s just old, cracked, caked, or ugly THROW IT OUT!  Once you do this you can really examine what you use and how you can update your look by slowing adding new products!  See, purging is good for two reasons; you clean up your space AND you make room for exciting new stuff!

Hip Tip - Recycables

recyclebin It’s about time for Spring cleaning, here are some things you can recycle that you might not have known about: Phone Books If your city takes mixed paper, phonebooks can be recycled Aluminum Foil It’s just as recyclable as aluminum cans, but it’s not accepted by all recycling programs.  Check with your local waster department before you recycle foil and make sure it’s clean first.  Besides recycling foil, you can wash it off with soap and water and reuse it for storing food or you can try crumpling up old foil and throwing it in the clothes dryer to reduce static cling. Aerosol Cans You can recycle EMPTY aerosol cans with other metals.  If it has any product in it, don’t toss it in your bin. Labels Labels aren’t a problem on bottles and cans because recycling facilities are already set up to handle them.  It’s okay to recycle slightly dirty glass, plastic, and metal containers. Metal Clothes Hangers Places like New York City, Phoenix, Houston, and Portland, Oregon accept metal clothes hangers.  In most cities there are plenty of recycling centers where you can drop them off.

Hip Tip - Purge Your Closets

overflowingclothesLet’s talk spring cleaning! This is something that I am doing at my house, so let’s do it together. Start with a good purge of your closets. Grab two trash bags and go to one of your overflowing closets in one bag put any clothing or shoes that you want to donate, meaning that they are still in good condition and aren’t stained or have holes in them, then in the other bag goes trash, any papers, tags, broken heeled shoes, pants with giant rips in them, or stuff that no one would wear, so be objective about it. If you haven’t worn it in the last six months it goes in one of those bags. More spring cleaning tips coming up!

Hip Tip - Emotional Shopping

tiredshopping A new study finds that shoppers are likely to want to buy different products depending on how they feel. The study found that feeling pride led to people to want nice watches, shoes, and clothing for going out. But when people felt happiness they were more attracted to products such as beds, dishwashers, and clothing for lounging around the house. So check your own emotional status before you go out shopping and take notice to what your friends buy when you guys are at the mall- it might be the difference between spending and not spending hundreds of dollars!

Hip Tip - Recycling Cosmetics

red-lipstick Don't you just hate it when you buy a cosmetic that you think looks great but when you get it home it looks terrible? If you get a lipstick and you think it looks bad, then try it as a blush. All you have to do is blot a little on the tops of your cheekbones and rub it. It will give you a pleasant glow and it will stick with you all day. Don't toss valuable cosmetics, just try them in some other place!

Hip Tip - Coconut Water

coconut-waterI’ve talked about coconut water before but for the last month I have been drinking it everyday. A lot of celebs say it helps them after they work out and makes them feel rejuvenated; well I have to agree coconut water, not coconut milk, is amazing! Drinking it everyday instead of a soda has made my skin smoother and softer and keeps me energized and just feeling great! I can’t say enough good things about coconut water; however, the taste does take a little getting used to, but just drink it ice cold and enjoy the benefits! I get mine wherever you buy your juice.

Hip Tip - Mascara

applyingmascaraWhen it come to mascara there is nothing like long full lashes. But the worst is when someone’s eyelashes look caked with mascara and spidery looking. So, be quick about it. When applying mascara apply the second coat before the first coat dries and you will get long-wispy-sleek looking lashes that everyone will notice.

Hip Tip - Short Fingernails

khloekardashian_nails If you are someone who has a French Manicure and acrylic nails and it is getting really expensive to keep getting them filled and keep up with them, then you are in luck! The way to go with nails right now is SHORT with MUTED COLORS. Try a flat grey or a brown with no sparkles. Take a break from fake nails and pocket that cash. Then you can buy a gift for yourself or someone you love and it will give your nails a moment to breathe and for you to try something new.

Hip Tip - Make Up Tools

makeuptoolsSo, if you are low on cash and you don’t want to spend your money on lots of makeup tools then when you buy make up just keep the wands and the brushes – all of those things can be washed and reused. Like the wand to the mascara can be washed and rinsed and then used as a brow brush. There is no reason to waste your money on the little stuff, spend it on the fun stuff!

Hip Tip - Wardrobe Calendar Log

calendar Ever stand in front of your closet saying “I have nothing to wear?” Me too. So here’s a little something you can do so you don’t lose valuable time in the morning: Every day in the corner of your regular calendar jot down what you wore. People have food journals and menus about they eat / have eaten in a day, so why not do this with the outfits you wear every day. This way, if you ever get stuck on what you should wear just go back later in the month and wear that outfit. It will help you keep track of what you wear and help you out if you get stuck.

Hip Tip - Lipstick In Public

lipstick When it comes to lipstick stay away from orange. Orange tones tend to make teeth look more yellow and a lot of skin tones can't pull it off. As for when to apply lipstick, believe it or not, it is RUDE to apply it in public or in front of co-workers. Yeah, I never really thought about it either, but apparently it looks cheap or unladylike. Hmmmm. So if you are into having good manners, take your primping somewhere private!

bathroomcandlesTurn your normal morning shower into a spa and light a few candles! It’s not hard to do and it will make your bathroom feel more luxurious, plus when you go to do your eyeliner run it through the flame and let it cool. NailBuffer If you are looking down at your nails and wishing they were longer or if you just took off you acrylics and you just need new nails to grow out; well, this isn’t a secret but buffing those nails will make them shiny and smooth but it also increases circulation to the nail beds encouraging them to grow faster. So if you are looking down at your raggedy nails just to go to Walgreens and get a 4-sided nail buffer. Your nails will look better before you know it!

Hip Tip - Full Eye Brows

eyebrowpowderSo, full brows are really big. Forget the pencil thin eyebrows they are not doing you any favors, but if you are filling in your brows do not use eye shadow. Eye shadows commonly contain more than actual brow powders, so it’s more likely to smudge and smear. You run your fingers through your hair and get a little close to those eyebrows and you are going to be looking foolish. Let’s avoid that and just use powders designed for your brows.

Hip Tip - Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

oatmeal How about a breakfast for 20 cents? Oh and it is delicious. A new report came out that says oats are the best thing in the morning to get the most furl for the day. And I have to admit that I am not an oatmeal fan (something about the texture that just isn’t tasty). But because it is good for me, I picked up a box of Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal from Trader Joe’s and it’s GREAT!!! It seriously tastes like an apple fritter. It’s all natural flavored so you aren’t chowing down on chemicals. Plus it’s filling and only $2 for a box of 10! Yep 20 cents a day for breakfast. Aaaannnnnddd it’s good for you!

Hip Tip - Potatoes

potato Lately I have NOT been getting a ton of sleep, and if you have an infant you definitely know what I am talking about (and if you ARE getting sleep with a three month old around, email me and let me know your secrets!) But if you are sleep deprived you may have some dark circles under your eyes. Well, take a piece of raw potato and place it under your eyes to reduce the purple or dark shadows on your skin. After you take the potato off dab a yellow tinted concealer there and you are good to go. You will look full rested even if you feel like sleeping at your desk.

Ever since I have been using Olay Mascar + Makeup Remover my face feels cleaner than ever before! My eye makeup comes right off and you don't even have to really scrub that hard. Hip Tip - Clothes That Fit

maesuretape I’ve talked before about wearing clothes that fit your body type, well, none of that matters if you’re not wearing clothes that fit. We have all been there, you’ve gained a few pounds but you’re not willing to buy a larger size, but here is what you should keep in mind: wearing clothes even one size too small can make you look thirty times heavier than you actually are. It can also cause extreme discomfort and nerve damage. So if you’ve gained a little weight recently, stop shoving yourself into clothes that don’t fit. Start a workout plan and work your way back to your ideal weight.

Hip Tip - Hydrogen Peroxide

hydrogenperoxide If you ever find yourself out of mouth wash but are self-conscious about your mouth, try using hydrogen peroxide. It may sound weird but hydrogen peroxide is great for killing bad breathe germs and brightening your smile. And the great thing about using peroxide is that you don’t have to deal with the intense burn you get from other mouth washes. To use it, make sure you dilute it with water (about 50%) and swish it around in your mouth for no longer than 30 seconds. And definitely DO NOT swallow it. This will leave you with a fresh, clean mouth ready for the day.

You would be blown away by the amount of people who have turned to online dating, including me. My husband and I, we met through online-dating, know 5 couples who have either gotten married or are engaged after meeting through Yahoo Personals. It’s inexpensive, it’s a ton of fun, and it’s a great way to find that special someone this year.

Hip Tip - Natural Looking Makeup

clinique_liquidblush The new makeup trend for 2010 is to look like you’re not wearing any makeup at all. Instead of wearing powdered shadows and blushes try wearing the liquid versions, they may take a little practice though. And make sure to find shades that are just slightly darker than the shades of your skin. Browns for your eyelids are always a good idea for shading. And make sure to always put your makeup on in good light to avoid looking too made up. You will look healthy, natural, and ready for anything in 2010!

Hip Tip - Hand Sanitizing Lotion

bathandbody_handsanitizinglotion I am pretty paranoid, as most parents are, of my kids getting sick. Especially, since I have a little one with health issues.  I am obsessed with hand sanitizer, but with the cold weather my hands get cracked.  I started getting hand sanitizer with lotion and it makes my hands feel so much better.  You can get it at Ulta, Bath and Body Works, or most Drug Stores. It will help you keep a healthy body and healthy hands this cold and flu season.

Hip Tip - Painting Toe Nails

toenails If you constantly paint your toenails you may be doing damage to them! Here is a little tip for you: take a few months off. I know it's not the prettiest thing in the world but the winter months are the perfect time to go with a naked nail and give your nails a break. Hip Tip - Dr. Scholl's For Her Heel Liners

drscholls_heelliners If you’re like me then you are a shoe fiend. But sometimes when I find the perfect pair of heels, they don’t fit perfectly. So, I have stocked up on Dr. Scholl's For Her Heel Liners. They have an adhesive strip on the back that you stick on the inside heel of your shoe. They’re a really soft gel rubber that not only keeps your shoes from slipping, but they make your heels that much more comfortable, so you can focus on your date instead of your throbbing feet.
