If you missed the story yesterday, a 6-year-old boy was thought to have climbed into a helium balloon after he was seen climbing into the balloon his father built, in their backyard, just before the balloon got loose and flew away. This led local authorities, major news networks, and people all over the country on a chase as they watched this balloon, which they believed the child was inside, fly as high as 7,000 feet in the air for almost 2 hours. The story got stranger after the balloon finally landed and the boy wasn’t in it, leaving everyone watching fearing the worst.
The boy was eventually found alive in a cardboard box in the attic of his parent’s house, where he was apparently hiding the whole time.
Here is a video of the sheriff on the case announcing the boy has been found:
A lot of people have speculated that this family set this whole thing up and it was all a publicity stunt. Jason thought it was a hoax from the beginning.
The family was on the Today show and when asked why he didn’t come out from the attic when he was called the little boy actually said “we did it for the show” (he says it at 4:40 into the video below). The boy also throws up on live TV as well (this is about 6:00 into the video below).
